I said too many times that I don´t play cash... but in the last weeks I had some new experiences and I really enjoyed them.
I barely can justify why I don´t like cash, I guess it´s (as always) just ignorance... I started to play online at Sit&Go´s and MTT, and never played cash. Every player I know said to me if you wanna win, you should play cash, that you can´t make a living on tourneys, and all that stuff, but I really like tourneys (and, by now, is going pretty good), is the game I know and enjoy, and cash seemed more boring and automatic.
It still seem boring to me, actually. But I´m gradually changing my mind (or trying, at least). I know that if I want to be better player I HAVE TO play cash. So, while I wait Morpheo give me some classes to start with the online cash, I´m starting with live cash.
I started at Vegas. First day me and my friends went to the Golden Nugget to play a litte table. I don´t like play cash with friends (I don´t mind at all in a tourney... but it feels weird at cash games) so with that and the fact that I don´t have experience enough I was feeling pretty awkward and I lost 100$ soon. Later, people on the table started to talk and everything turned more friendly so I relaxed and finally left the table even (I won like 20 dollars, or something).
The Golden Nugget experience gave us a funny story to tell. We had being seated at the table like half hour when a new player appeared... He looked like “Jesus” from “The Gran Leboswy”, just in blonde. Golden rings, brazalets, chains... he seemed like he plays on the Golden Nugget for a reason....
He arrived to the table with about 2000$!! in 5$ chips. And he had with him a velvet bag, full of bills. He slowly started to take out all the money in the bag. There were bunches of bills attached with golden (how not?) brazalets. We estimated he had a total of 80.000$ at play.... IN A 1/2NL TABLE!!!.... I was looking at all the players at the table searching some facial expressions of surprise and confussion like my own, but everybody had a real poker face! So, the guy spend like 10 minutes putting all the bills and chips together, making him stack looking nice... and before 20 minutes without getting involved in a single hand, he left the table! Is this being recorded or something???
"Jesus!"
On the second day we decided to stay at Strip and we went to Planet Hollywood. We played in different tables, and mine was a dream. I had a player at my right making calls on the river with jack high. I had a revelation on this table: I get J9off on the buttom and the flop came JJ3.Player on my right bet 20 and I moved all-in with my 200$ remaining (hey!it´s not that crazy! He´s going to call me anyway, so I´m not loosing my time neither my money) He called (of course!) with KQ offsuited. Yep. KQ. Guess what: Queen on the turn, Queen on the river and he gets the pot. I was like “ouch, that hurts” and about to leave my seat, when I suddenly realized that I´m not playing a tourney! Hey! I´m not out of the game! I can reload!!! Great!!! So, I put more money at the table and I ended the day with all my money he got away from me and a little extra I got away from him. At this point, somebody could be saying me... so??? was that your first time at a cash table? Didn´t you know that you can bring more money? Of course I knew, but a badbeat in a tourney is much more painful, and I never experienced before a badbeat in cash... I couldn´t mind less! The only thing I was praying for was like “please, don´t let him leave the table”...
On our last day we went to Flamingo. I have no much to tell about this table (it was so nice and funny as always -people is very nice in USA- and there was very bad players as well...). I was very surprised because we were playing with one lady who turned out to be the 4th finalist of the WSOP Ladies Tourney. It was surprising because she didn´t play so good at the cash table... weak and little calling station, but I guess she just had a bad day.
Well, some players told me that´s impossible to lost in Vegas low limit tables.... that players are bad and that any player with minimum experience is going to win. Ok... I agree. In fact there´s something I heard I don´t remember where or who that says like “the half of your winnings is not because your skills, it´s because the mistakes the others made”... but STILL, I´m feeling pretty good with my first live and winning cash sessions, let´s see if I get more confident to start playing online cash.
If you see me at Everest Poker cash tables you already know that I´m a little fish!! Bon Appetit!
